Nintendo Switch Gives You Console Gaming on the Go

New Nintendo Switch console comes with detachable Joy-Con Controllers and a new Super Mario game!

Nintendo will release its new video game system, the Nintendo Switch (formerly the Nintendo NX), sometime in March 2017. Even better, the company gave us a look at the console in an exciting Nintendo Switch video, which you can watch below. Additionally, this is everything we know about the Nintendo Switch, including all of the Nintendo Switch games that you’ll be able to play.

Nintendo Switch Details

First, the Nintendo Switch is both a portable and handheld console. You can literally play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild from the comfort of your couch, as you might do with Xbox One and PlayStation 4 games. But then you can take the same high quality experience on the go without a loss in quality. Continue playing at the park, on a rooftop or while in an airplane.

How does the Nintendo Switch work? The core device is a tablet, similar to an iPad. If you want to play at home, you place the Nintendo Switch into the Nintendo Switch Dock, which connects to the TV.

Want to play the Nintendo Switch away from home? This is where things get crazy. The Nintendo Switch has two detachable Joy-Con controllers, which slide onto the left and right sides of the Nintendo Switch tablet, respectively. Then, you lift the Nintendo Switch from the Dock and go on your way. What is the battery life of the Nintendo Switch? Not sure at the moment. Crossing our fingers that it’s at least six hours.

Side note, the Joy-Con controllers also fit onto a Joy-Con Grip accessory, which looks more like a standard video game controller. You can use this while playing on the TV, or looking directly at the Nintendo Switch tablet device. We also saw the optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, which looks more rugged than the Nintendo Wii U Pro Controller.

Additionally, if you want to play multiplayer games with a friend, you can place the Nintendo Switch onto a flat surface (there’s a stand on the back) and each of you gets a Joy-Con controller; every Joy-Con controller has an analog stick and four face buttons.

Nintendo Switch Games

What are the new games coming out for the Nintendo Switch? We don’t have official titles yet, but Nintendo appeared to show a new Mario video game for Nintendo Switch, a new Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (also available for Wii U next year), Splatoon and what might be NBA 2K17 and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim – Special Edition. With Splatoon, Nintendo stressed eSports, with two teams battling it out inside of an arena. Watch the new Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Trailer below. Looks incredible so far!

There is a split screen option for the Nintendo Switch Mario Kart game, where the screen divides into two sections, vertically. NBA 2K17 is in full screen. On top of that, you can link two or more Nintendo Switch systems. In the example shown, four people enjoy a game of NBA 2K17 with two Nintendo Switch consoles, two people per system.

Of course, these are but a few of the games that we know about. Multiple companies will release and make games for the Nintendo Switch, including Sega, Capcom, Electronic Arts, Square Enix, Ubisoft and plenty more.

What form of media does the Nintendo Switch use? Goodbye, discs! We don’t have official confirmation, but in the video, a player inserts an SD card-looking item into the Nintendo Switch, which points back to rumors of the Nintendo Switch using cartridges.

There are still many unanswered questions. Nintendo Switch battery life? Nintendo Switch price? Nintendo Switch launch games? Lots to learn, but we’re sure Nintendo will reveal more Nintendo Switch details in the coming months. For now, very exciting news, and we can’t wait to play Nintendo Switch with friends next March.

Did you head about the NES Classic Edition? Nintendo will release a miniature of the popular retro console on Nintendo 11th, and it comes with 30 classic NES games like Super Mario Bros. 3 and Tecmo Bowl. Even better, you can connect two controllers to play these NES games with friends.
