Let’s hear it for dads everywhere! Father’s Day is this weekend, which is a great time to celebrate the men in your life. According to the National Retail Federation’s (NRF) annual survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics, Americans are expected to spend more than ever on gifts for Father’s Day this year. In fact, total spending is expected to reach $15.5 billion, which is the highest in the survey’s 15-year history (topping last year’s previous record of $14.3 billion). While some opt to give handmade cards and crafts made by the kids as gifts, others go for items like cologne, power tools, outdoor grills and supplies, ties, or brunch or dinner reservations. One thing is for sure, when it comes to gift-giving for dads, one size does not fit all. So if you want to give dad a gift that really shows your admiration and appreciation for all he does (not to mention if you have siblings and are looking to achieve “most-favored child” status”), then consider his interests, likes and hobbies when trying to decide what gift to give this year.
While gift cards, tools and appliances, books, electronics and clothes are always solid options, the NRF survey found that 27 percent of dads would love to receive a “gift of experience” for Father’s Day—and 25 percent of shoppers plan to give gifts like tickets to a concert or a sporting event. The survey also revealed that when dinners, brunches and other types of “fun activity/experience” are included in the gift, consumers plan to spend $3.3 billion on these special outings, which will be given by 48 percent of those surveyed. One idea for a “special outing” gift is to visit one of the many resorts around the country that are offering special promotions and packages geared toward ensuring men are being pampered and having fun this Father’s Day.
Here’s a look at some of these Father’s Day packages:
Acqualina Resort & Spa (Sunny Isles Beach, Florida): During the month of June, dads can partake in Acqualina Spa by ESPA’s “Father’s Day, the ESPA Way” package, which includes a 50-minute ESPA Men’s Facial followed by a 50-minute Deep Tissue Massage, and a complimentary ESPA men’s introductory set of products as an added bonus.
Château Élan Winery & Resort (Braselton, Georgia): Guests at this resort can enjoy a number of Father’s Day events and packages, including a Father’s Day brunch, a chef-instructed Butcher & BBQ class that includes an interactive demonstration for guests to learn how to carve a whole hog for barbecue (and then get to enjoy the meal afterward); a special glow-in-the-dark Night Golf experience, and two fun golf tournament options, including the Dad & Jr. Scramble Golf Tournament and the Father’s Day Best Ball Tournament.
Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail (Colorado): In addition to special pricing on brunch and dinner options at the resort, guests can also enjoy a number of pampering spa services, including the Cut and a Cold One, an Organic Male Facial and the Brew & Renew Massage, which is a beer-inspired version of a hot stone massage. It incorporates cans of Crazy Mountain Brewery beer warmed to the perfect temperature and used to help relieve stress. Post-treatment, men can enjoy a complimentary refreshing cold beer.
Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa (Austin, Texas): This resort is offering a number of Father’s Day-themed packages including the Bucket List Golf Package, which includes deluxe accommodations, one round of golf per registered adult per day, unlimited use of the driving range, one assorted bucket of local beer and a $50 credit on retail apparel from one of its golf shops.
Pebble Beach (California): For Father’s Day, guests can receive up to 35 percent off regular room rates; 52 percent off golf; and a 20 percent discount on any service at The Spa at Pebble Beach, including the Pre-Golf Warm-Up to prep the muscles for a round of golf and Post-Golf Therapy, which is designed to help the body recover faster.
The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe (Truckee, California): On Sunday, June 18, the resort is celebrating men with a day of fun events, including a Father’s Day Whiskey & BBQ Brunch and a number of Father’s Day-themed treatments at the spa.
Salamander Resort & Spa (Middleburg, Virginia): On Father’s Day, dads zip free (with a paying family member) all day on the property’s zip line. In addition, the resort will host a Beer, Brisket and Bourbon event in which the resort’s culinary team will grill large portions of brisket paired with local beer. Live music and lawn games will be available, as well.
The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa (Scottsdale, AZ): The Drams for Dads special scotch tasting at The Scotch Library at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa features a tasting of four Glenmorangie whiskies—the Glenmorangie 10-year, Lasanta, Quinta Ruban and Nectar D’Or. In addition to sampling the scotches, guests will learn about the differences between the labels, the various whisky regions of Scotland and discover different ways to drink scotch. What’s more, dads who bring in an old tie can trade it for a complimentary cigar with cigar cutter and a special offer when they return to The Scotch Library.
If you’re not able to take advantage of a fun activity/experience gift option this year for dad, fear not. Now you have all year to plan for next year’s ultimate dad-approved getaway!
